Short Progressions

introduction diatonic chromatic

introduction | fifths | seconds | thirds

introduction | perfect cadence | imperfect cadence | plagal cadence | seventh chords

introduction | ii-V-I | cadential 6/4 | suspension

The suspension is one of many voice-leading figures that involves a tension followed by a resolution (see resolution of tension for more). By creaiting a sense of resolution on V, 4-3 suspension like the one below heightens the sense of closure already created by the perfect cadence.
